Wind turbines tend to be located in remote and harsh environments, meaning that anything related to maintenance or checking the status of bolted connections can be quite a task. Remote preload monitoring technology solves these problems, as technicians get a continuous flow of data about the state of bolted connections and other valuable insights straight into their smartphone or computer.

Measuring the impact of aerodynamic loads on bolted connections

With modern trains moving at above 160 km/h, sometimes surpassing 300 km/h, aerodynamic loads from passing trains can inflict fatigue damage in noise barriers steel structures. By using fastening elements as data transmitters, it's possible to monitor the preload of bolted connections and conduct maintenance if they drop to dangerously low levels.
