MADE FOR EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS - Nord-Lock joins Åre Extreme 2023
In the north of Sweden, located just between Åre and Östersund, sits Mattmar. Our wedge-locking washers, designed to withstand extreme operating conditions, are still made in this tiny village where it all began in 1982. But just as our products thrive in extreme environments, so do the people behind them. And for those wanting to combine a passion for the outdoors with working for a global engineering company, Mattmar is everything you could wish for.
“To get to work and live here is a privilege”, says Daniel H Eriksson, Automation Engineer and extreme sports enthusiast. “The possibility to do my outdoor hobbies is mostly the reason for why I live here.”
When driving into Mattmar, it’s easy to see what Daniel means. With far-stretching forests, imposing mountains, and big skies, the village presents itself as nothing less than a paradise for anyone passionate about the outdoors. “I started here as an intern when I was looking for a place where I could grow in my profession, and I stayed here for the same reason. It’s a place where you can develop as a person and I’m also proud of the quality of our washers and how they’re used” says Daniel.

The passion for outdoor activities is something that characterizes the workplace culture inside Mattmar’s Nord-Lock facilities. Daniel explains that it helps create an encouraging environment that promotes a can-do attitude and tight bonds between colleagues. So, whether it’s about work or the outdoors, the ‘Nord-Lock-ers’ in Mattmar are happy to share their experience and knowledge – and they’re not shy of hitting the trails together.
Taking on challenges together in Åre Extreme Challenge
For several years, Daniel and his colleagues have taken part in the Åre Extreme Challenge, a race that takes the participants down rivers, over mountains, and through deep forest trails.
True to spirit, Nord-Lock Group has sponsored the event for many years, and the 2023 edition was no exception. The event is a great opportunity for the people working in Mattmar to continue building on the already well-established and productive atmosphere they’ve got going.
“The passion for the outdoors is why we keep coming back to Åre Extreme Challenge. It’s just good fun to do something like this together” says Daniel.
As the saying goes, a company is no more than its people. But nowhere does it apply as well as Nord-Lock in Mattmar.
